DVD Drive Back to Haunt Me (Updated)
I was trying to really figure out this HDTV/Xbox thing. I really wanted to see a difference. So after I read awhile today online about changing the settings on my Xbox, I noticed I didn't have the settings they were talking about.
I little research in to Xbox.com revealed that I needed a new Dashboard download from Live.
Well I'm screwed since my Xbox was banned from Live because I replaced my own DVD drive. I mean, who else would really pay Microsoft $80 to fix a $35 part.
Someone who is now playing in HD, I guess.

Turns out there is another way to enable 480p on the Xbox by holding both triggers and thumbsticks on the dashboard. That didn't work for me either. I was also told that connecting it to the internet (not Live) would also make the Xbox automatically download the new dash. Also not true.
A glimmer of hope was a forum post about switching TVs just to change to the 480p setting and then going back to the HDTV. I will try that tonight.
Well, I guess that's what you get for sticking it to the man.
ReplyDeleteBizarro Dad (my hubby) says that you can't be banned from Live just for replacing your DVD drive. You'd have to either add a mod chip or modify your software to get banned. As far as he knows, anyway. If that's the case, I'll never tell.
Of course, if you're really dying to play in HD, you could always shell out four or five hundred dollars to get the 360, but then you'd still have to get an HDTV for it to work. Man, that Bill Gates must have a patent on HD. Asshat that he is. Like he doesn't have enough money that he has to go inventing ways to manipulate the system to make more.
