Wii
So while I'm sitting here waiting for this computer to process, I guess I'll go ahead and weigh in on the Nintendo Wii.
Honestly, I don't care what it's called. I am a fan of Nintendo, but more importantly a fan of change. Lately gaming has been getting a little stale. Madden, Splinter Cell, Burnout, SSX, racing games, MMORPG games...it's all repetitive. Even my DS doesn't really offer that much difference in gaming. The interface just isn't used enough.
What Nintendo has got here is a finger on the pulse of cutting edge. They always have. It just so happens that a lot of their fingers get cut off and...well...we all remember the Virtual Boy and Power Glove. But what they've done different this time has actually made sense. Not one person has said anything about the Wii's interface (probably because no one knows much about it). The name? Is that all they've got to complain about?
I admit, it's dumb. Like Perrin Kaplan of Nintendo said, the iPod was probably not the best name for a media player. But it stuck. Although I doubt a lot of people will want to go around saying "We" when they talk about gaming. The name conjures up images and meanings that belong only to the mind of an 8-year-old.
Of course, we are all still talking about "games" here.
Hey, I'm with you. Who cares about the name? This system looks like it's going to be excellent, and will definitely solidify Nintendo's hold on the gaming market in Japan. I can't wait for the Wii to come out!
ReplyDeleteAnd, yeah, all those games you mentioned... they're getting boring and repetitive.
