Got a Wii

It was a spur of the moment kind of thing. A couple people at work were talking about their last Wii experience and it put a bug in my ear. I had no intentions of purchasing it around here because of the stupid bundles you have to buy. But this weekend we went to NY to see Les Miserables and, well, you know, the Nintendo World Store is only about 8 blocks away. I called that morning and they said they already had a line forming outside, but I think that's just NY shopping in general. When I got there they about 15 Wiis behind the counter and we were in and out in about 10 minutes.

I'm not really going to talk about the pack-in game, Wii Sports. It's fun. It was free. 'Nuff said. We showed it to our families and it was an instant hit.

But what they didn't ge to see was the system software itself. Once I got a decent internet connection, I checked out the Weather and News channels. Both channels integrate a NASA map of the globe and plot data accordingly. You can literally spin the Earth to see weather data and where news is happening. It's really cool and may change my morning routine.

I've also been able to find software online to stream media from my Mac to the Wii. I had it before with the Xbox, but an update to the Dashboard ruined that $20 peice of software. Hopefully this $14 peice of software will work well enough.

I do feel that the purchase was a little premature. There aren't any games still that I want on the Wii. This was basically a cash outlay for future entertainment purposes. I'll get some good use out of Wii Sports while my Xbox is off, once again, to MS to get warranty repair, but after that, Forza 2 is going to claim the living room with a vengeance.
