A kid again, for only $15! Ask me how.

Has a game been released lately that has given you the feelings of your childhood? Played a game that has brought back the feelings you had playing those 8 bit games? As a child I played games that were for the most part simple. The graphics were so bad that deep inside your brain you would use your imagination to create a bigger experience than it really was.

For the NES there was Excite Bike, a game that the vast majority of gamers from the era had played. I know Nintendo released a new version for the Wii with the original included. But if I could describe what my imagination made of Excite Bike it would be just like Trials HD which is out now for XBLA. Last night I tried the demo and I am going to purchase the full game today (after I buy some gamer points).

Trials HD is a visually stunning game that made me enjoy every minute of the demo. It is a game played in 2D but viewed in 3D. Let me explain. You control your motorcycle only by the accelerator, brake, leaning forward and backward. You do not steer, so that creates the 2D game play. Now for the 3D view the camera follows you as you scroll across to the finish line. But the camera does pan up and down pending on your vertical movement, giving you a beautiful 3D view.

Within the different difficulty brackets, there are more than 50 tracks you can run. You are trying to complete each course in a certain time to medal. Keep trying to get a better time, and not to wreck.

To break up the monotony there are tracks that require you to make a certain distance. In these tracks you are inside the steel death ball, or a long jump among others. Flames and explosions add to the visuals. And yes you can blow up or go up in flames. You also have a good track editor that you can share with the masses.

The physics of the game are outstanding, and it’s what sets it apart for other XBLA games. I’ll be on tonight, and you should too!

  1. I couldn't get over this because there are free versions of this online and lots of them. Some even have monster trucks.

  2. You can't compare that to Trials. They don't even come close.
