PS3 Slim And PS3 Price Cut Announced (With Pics)


After an early reveal by K-Mart and a boatload of now-credible rumors, the PS3 Slim has officially been announced by Sony at a press conference in Germany.


The PS3 Slim (pictured above) will launch in the first week of September and will come in a brand new shell that's 33% smaller, 36% lighter and will suck up 34% less juice. Slim indeed, though early pics from the press conference seem to imply the convex design isn't going anywhere.


Also not going anywhere, the lack of backwards compatibility for the PS3. The PS3 Slim will still have trouble playing most of your old PS2 games, so you're out of luck there, I'm afraid. On the bright side, it'll also come at a lower price point, selling at $299.99. In fact, all PS3s starting tomorrow will sell for this lower price point.
