Who will make the cut?
With the holidays looming and the big releases are around the corner. I have to decide, what I'm going to spend my not so hard earned cash on.
So here is what I am looking at as possible purchases.
9-22 Halo ODST
10-27 Forza 3
11-10 Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
11-17 Left for Dead 2
Lets break down my thought process.
I have to purchase L4D2 for my wife, she loved L4D and that's a nice "but I bought it for you, honey" moment. I love those, they don't come along to often but you have to seize the day when you can.
CoD MW2 is not only a long title to abbreviate, but a no-brainer as well. It will be they only game to make me retire the original. R.I.P. Modern Warfare, you and I had a great run.
So now I'm down to two titles that are pretty predictable. You know what you are going to get with them. Just slight adaptations of the previous edition.
A racing game is strictly that, a racing game. They will not evolve, some awesome innovation is not on the horizon. If you want more, go buy a race car okay! But the last driving game I purchased was Forza 2 and was worth every penny. Here is the question, Is Forza 3 going to be worth the purchase when you are just racing with the same cars you had in the last two games in the series? For example, lets take Justin into account. I bet when he popped in Forza 1 he thought, "I can't wait till I can get the Skyline and see what she can do". Now when he popped in Forza 2 I bet it was something along the lines of "I can't wait till I get the Skyline and see what she can do". See the similarities here? Let's put money on what he'll say when he gets Forza 3!
ODST will be similar. Halo Combat Evolved was awsome back in 2001. Halo 2 was good for 2004 and awsome if it came out in 2001. Halo 3 was mediocre at best in 2007 but awsome if it came out in 2001. The Halo series has been more of the same for eight years now and I'm not sure if the world is ready for more. We've had inovative shooter come and go since the Halo formula hit the scene. On top of all that it will not be a complete game and the multiplayer will be the same as Halo 3. Which in my eyes was a broken system of unenjoyment.
So there you have it. I'd rather drive that damn Skyline one more time than play a FPS that is outdated.
Sorry Bungie, you will not be getting my money this time. Maybe I'll pick it up used sometime. I'm sure you'll survive without me. You have the fanboys to prove it.
P.S. Bungie, make the movie, that's what we are all waiting for anyways!
Here were my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteHalo ODST - I'm much looking forward to the Gears of War style Firefight mode, defeating waves of enemies with friends. I hate Gears of War's control physics...this should be loads more fun.
Forza 3 - If I had the time, I would buy it. I love racing games. I love working on a car to make it handle how I want. But I hate playing against computer a.i. You might as well race by yourself because if your leading, your lapping. If your losing, what's the point. These games have no consequences for restarting races if your car sucks. There's no emotional involvement in the test.
Call of Duty 6: Definitely a no-brainer. CoD4 is a treasure that would have kept playability if they would have just made more maps. I'd play it for years to come if a new one wouldn't come out. I don't think I've ever played a game that much.
Left 4 Dead 2: Sorely disappointed that they are bringing out a second one so close to the first. That tired argument aside, I won't possibly be able to handle two games that close to release dates together. That purchase we purely depend on the population that is my Friends list.
