Tokyo Xtreme Racer: DRIFT Details

I'm still keeping an eye out on this game, one of my picks for 2006.

GameSpy has some new details on the game. Of course a lot of people are going to remember two things when they think DRIFT: Auto Modellista and the Initial:D anime/manga. Sadly, I owned Auto Modellista, but couldn't stomach the first few minutes. I mainly bought it to fill the online void that Gran Turismo couldn't fill (btw, there is talk of an online edition coming soon) and never looked into the single player mode before it was taken back to the store.

Initial: D is going to be a little more acurate of a comparison to this game. Drifting up and down Japan's mountainous countryside in licensed cars saving up money for parts and cars. The emphasis not so much on losing your opponent, as in other TXR games, but finese and style. Of course, actually getting to the finish line first still matters, but you can win by just a headlight instead of having to completely crush the competition.

The only downside is no online. And since racing arcade racing games have been my only good online gaming experience, it's definetly going have to be a traditionally priced Tokyo Xtreme Racer game: $20.00, which is the believed to be the deal.
